Latin Title: Typus Orbis Terrarum
Dimensions: 26 x 18 inches
or exactly 66 x 46 centimeters
The story as the Italians tell us: Typus Orbis Terrarum by A. Ortelio (XVI century) Abramo Ortelio(1527-1598 was a typical 16th century intellectual, an interested voyager and keen on antiques. From this passion stemmed his subsequent interest for Cartography and in 1564 he published his first map of the world. A man of great stature and author of the most important cartography works of the 16th century Abramo Ortelio realized this map of America which is impressive for its similarity to the real world not evident in other contemporary maps. An important feature in all his production is also the exquisite aesthetic craftsmanship of the paper, its rich and decorated shape as well as the beauty of the lines. Reproduced according to Bordone’s oval projection this map represents the continent the way it was known at the time.
All maps are Made in Italy, outlined using a hand tooled copper press, painted by hand using water color, mounted on an antiquated, linen and cotton canvas in sections which fold easily, and are encased in a soft bag, inside of a luxurious burgundy gift box with the map’s title written across the corner cover.
Maps may be hung using any method of your choice including professional framing (available upon request) or be displayed atop tables or other flat surfaces.
